Mary Van Schaack

My name is Mary Van Schaack and I am a Somatic Therapist, predominantly utilizing the Triple Vagal Method ™ modality.

Born in a small town in Tennessee, I had big plans to see the world. I spent the first 11 years of my career as a Global Finance & Accounting professional working for Top Firms while living in New York City and Paris, France. At the height of my career, I was working in a different country every month (London, Moscow, Saigon, Hong Kong, etc). I flew business class, stayed only in 5-star hotels with unlimited budgets, and bought $1800 handbags. And I was miserable.

After burning out and taking solace in an Ashram in Mysore, India for months, I began a 4-year journey of healing, self-discovery, and self-love that continues to this day. The journey led me to the love of my life, Bobby, and to our forever home, Puerto Escondido, Mexico.

After 2 years of wonderful CBT therapy before moving to Mexico, I felt strong enough to follow my true calling of becoming a therapist and holding space for those who have experienced trauma while guiding them through their journeys.

But I was wrong. My therapist was wonderful! So what happened after not seeing her for only 1 year after moving to Mexico? I was again afraid of not having money. I was again predominately in “Fight or Flight”. And I was again paralyzed by perfectionism and fear of failure, holding on to an idea of a high-powered career.

The CBT effects were short-lived and thus I began studying Somatic Experiencing and Somatic Therapy. The strong research surrounding the effectiveness and efficiency of working with the body and the mind seemed obvious.

After I found the Somatic Modality Triple Vagal Method ™, my nervous system started to change immediately. My reactions became calmer, my objectives became clearer, and my fears became duller. I decided to become a practitioner.

Beginning my private Somatic Therapy practice has been the most rewarding career shift that I have made. The improvements I see weekly in my clients are astronomical.

I told my husband that I must love what I do before ever becoming a mother. Through my client's results, I now know that this is what I am called to do. Allow me to guide you through your own breakthrough.
