Curriculum for Advanced TVM Practitioner with the ISI

Module 1: Leadership Skills and Teacher Training

  • Principles of effective leadership in the field of somatic therapy
  • Techniques for facilitating group dynamics and creating a supportive learning environment
  • Strategies for mentorship and guidance of new practitioners
  • Curriculum development and delivery for teaching TVM to others

Module 2: Advanced Medical and Complex Case Applications

  • Exploration of complex trauma cases and their unique challenges
  • Application of TVM in medical settings and integration with other modalities
  • Understanding the interaction between trauma and physical health conditions
  • Strategies for working with comorbidities and complex symptomatology

Module 3: Modifications of TVM Triple Vagal Method

  • Deepening understanding of the underlying principles and mechanisms of TVM
  • Exploring modifications and adaptations of the Triple Vagal Method for specific client populations
  • Integration of additional somatic techniques and modalities into TVM practice
  • Ethical considerations and professional responsibilities when modifying the approach

Module 4: Simulations to Build Robust Vagal Tone

  • Utilizing simulations and experiential exercises to enhance vagal tone
  • Practical techniques for regulating the autonomic nervous system in simulated scenarios
  • Developing resilience and adaptability in the face of challenging situations
  • Facilitating self-regulation and self-soothing techniques in clients

Module 5: Self-Development Retreat

  • Exploration of personal growth and self-awareness as a practitioner
  • Self-care practices and strategies for managing vicarious trauma and burnout
  • Reflection on the impact of personal beliefs and values on professional practice
  • Integration of mindfulness, meditation, and somatic practices for self-development

Module 6: Connecting String Theory, Game Theory, and Quantum Physics to the Nervous System

  • Understanding the theoretical foundations of string theory, game theory, and quantum physics
  • Exploring their connections and implications for the functioning of the nervous system
  • Integration of theoretical concepts into the understanding and application of TVM
  • Ethical considerations when applying interdisciplinary knowledge in clinical practice

Module 7: Spinal Cord Systems and Relationship to Spinal Cerebral Fluids

  • Examination of newly discovered systems within the spinal cord
  • Understanding the relationship between spinal cerebral fluids and nervous system regulation
  • Implications for trauma healing and the modulation of the autonomic nervous system
  • Integration of knowledge into TVM practice and treatment planning

Throughout the curriculum, emphasis will be placed on ethical practice, cultural sensitivity, and ongoing professional development. Participants will engage in a combination of didactic sessions, case studies, hands-on practice, experiential exercises, and self-reflection to enhance their advanced TVM skills and knowledge.

Selection Criteria for Advanced TVM Applicants with the ISI

Demonstrated Proficiency in Basic TVM Skills:

Applicants should have a solid foundation in the fundamental principles, techniques, and applications of the Triple Vagal Method (TVM). They should provide evidence of their proficiency in working with clients using TVM and demonstrate a thorough understanding of the theoretical framework.

Continued Professional Development:

Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of trauma healing and somatic therapy. This can be evidenced through participation in advanced training programs, workshops, conferences, or relevant certifications.

Leadership Skills and Teaching Experience:

Applicants should have a proven track record of leadership skills, such as mentoring or supervising other therapists, teaching or training experience, or involvement in professional organizations. They should be capable of effectively sharing their knowledge and expertise with others. This also includes having attended some basic training around leadership or teaching adults.

Professional Recommendations:

Applicants must provide professional recommendations from individuals who can attest to their clinical skills, ethical conduct, and ability to work effectively with clients. Recommendations should come from qualified professionals in the field, such as supervisors, mentors, or colleagues.

Ethical Conduct:

Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to ethical practice and adhere to the highest standards of professional conduct. They should possess a deep understanding of professional ethics, maintain appropriate boundaries, and prioritize the well-being and safety of their clients. They must have marinated a consistent “practitioner in good standing” status.

Personal Suitability:

Applicants should possess qualities that align with the values of the ISI, including compassion, empathy, cultural sensitivity, and a trauma-informed approach. They should be able to establish a safe and therapeutic rapport with clients, demonstrating the ability to work with diverse populations.

Professional Goals and Alignment with ISI's Mission:

Applicants should articulate their professional goals and demonstrate how their aspirations align with the mission and vision of the ISI. They should express a commitment to trauma healing, ongoing learning, and contributing to the field through their advanced TVM practice.

Personal Development and Self-Reflection:

Applicants should exhibit a track history and future willingness to engage in personal development, self-reflection, and self-care practices. They should demonstrate an understanding of the importance of their own well-being and self-awareness as a therapist.

The selection process for advanced TVM applicants may include a written application, interviews, practical demonstrations, and a review of supporting documents. The ISI aims to select candidates who possess the requisite skills, knowledge, experience, and personal qualities to advance their TVM practice and contribute to the field of trauma healing.

Please note that the specific selection criteria may vary depending on the policies and requirements set by the ISI in the future.

Who can join?

The eligibility requirements for the training include:

•Completing a TVM™ training

•Successful completion of an application essay of 1000 words on why you would like to teach and train TVM™

•Eligibility for a clear psychological evaluation check if necessary

Duration of the training

The training runs for 10  consecutive days in a blend of hands on practice, simulations, theory, and tasks to be completed outside of the in person training hrs.

How will I be assessed?

The range of assessment methods includes:


•Creation of resources supporting the institute, to include upgraded intake forms, FAQs, drive organization and relevant resource expansion, etc

•In person assessments

•Reflective log of 160hrs accumulatively successful TVM™ sessions  (80 sessions or more)

•Reflective log of 24hrs accumulatively successful personal TVM™ sessions (min of 12 with a certified TVM™ practitioner, subject to review and re-evaluation of progress, evaluating vagal tone and circuitry dominance)

•Practical Hours support teaching in trainings (average of 40hrs, both in person & online)

•Case study research

•Simulation exercises to demonstrate capacity to support individuals in a trauma informed manner, as they navigate trauma healing & R.O.R

Every assignment issued has a set deadline.

There will be 1:1 mentoring sessions included within the upcoming months following the training for your own personal development.

What are the requirements?

You are required to complete:

•10 days of in person attendance of TVM™ teacher training

•60hrs of teacher training support in another TVM™ Practitioner Training

•All modules completed

•160 hours of hands on TVM™ 1:1 practice

•3 x case studies

•Live assessment that includes delivering lectures, course content or trauma container simulations

•Final interview to determine preparedness to host TVM™ Practitioner Training

Where a learner is unable to attend an in person session, this can be made up in the next cohort. This may delay certification, but will not prevent a learner from completing their training.

Course Materials

Your training  includes your course manual, access to the online training portal and emotional literacy resources. Any textbooks you purchase are optional and at your own discretion. There is a set course fee for all students. Installment options available upon request.
